Structural Integrity Project

A new program, the Structural Integrity Project , was developed in 2009. Believing in “ground zero” economic development and following up on the Phase 2 Scribner Place study, the Zone board agreed to a request from the City of New Albany to look into grants and other funding sources to do structural integrity studies of certain buildings in the Enterprise Zone and the downtown district specifically.

While details of the program are still under construction, the purpose of the program is to find funding sources and partners that can help identify those structures that can be stabilized within the target area, from those structures that cannot be stabilized and saved.

Phase Two of this project will be to find stabilization funds once the identification process has ended. To date, the New Albany Housing Authority and New Directions have received a verbal outline of the project and both have expressed interest in more detailed discussions.

The Indiana Association of Community Economic Development (IACED) has stated that stimulus funds are in the pipeline, but the state has not yet received them, and this would be a suitable project for their use. IACED, also, is interested in being a full-partner on this project.
